The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video on an officer-involved shooting (OIS) from February 5, 2026.
This incident began when detectives with the Tactical Support Bureau located a woman with an outstanding warrant related to a homicide in the area of 72nd Drive and Thomas Road.
The woman was seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle along with an adult male passenger. Detectives used their vehicles to contain her and prevent her from driving off. Detectives began to give both the man and woman commands to exit the vehicle.
The man was compliant and exited through the front passenger window. However, the woman did not comply. Detectives continued to communicate with the woman, who continued to be non-compliant.
One detective used a pepper ball launcher in order to gain compliance from the woman, at which point the woman armed herself with a handgun, this is when the officer involved shooting occurred.
Detectives removed the woman from the vehicle and began to render aid. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital in stable condition. She has since been released and booked into jail on charges stemming from this incident.
The officer involved in this shooting is assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension Investigation Detail and has approximately 9 years of service with the department.
This incident is the subject of a criminal investigation being conducted by the Major Incident Division of the Department of Public Safety. It will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.
