The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing video to provide details as we currently understand them, related to an officer-involved shooting from June 26, 2026.

Officers were called to the area of 35th Avenue and Greenway Road just after 11 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. The 911 caller stated that at least two people in the home were in an altercation, one of whom was armed with a knife and attempting to stab the other.

When officers arrived, they approached the front of the home, where they began speaking with a woman. While talking with her, the suspect ran out from the front of the house holding a knife. He began chasing another man who had been standing in the home’s driveway. This is when the officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire.

The suspect dropped the knife and fell to the ground, at which point officers took him into custody and began providing first aid. Phoenix Fire Department personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The officers involved in this shooting are assigned to the Cactus Park Precinct and all have approximately one year of service with the department.

This incident is the subject of a criminal investigation conducted by the Major Incident Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. It is also the subject of an administrative investigation being conducted by the Phoenix Police Department.

Conclusions about whether the actions of the officer are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.
