The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing video related to an officer-involved shooting from March 13, 2026.

Officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Osborn Road around 6:30 p.m. after a woman called 911 saying her husband had beaten her.

The first officer on scene noticed the man who was the subject of the call, saw him run through the complex and began following him.

As additional officers arrived, the man was seen carrying a rifle and refused repeated commands to stop running. The man continued to move to an area with people and children, and this is when the officer-involved shooting occurred.

After the man was injured by gunfire, officers safely approached him, removed the rifle and took him into custody. Medical aid was provided until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived and transported him to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The officers involved in this shooting are assigned to the Maryvale-Estrella Mountain Precinct and have approximately six and 18 years of service with the department.

This incident is the subject of a criminal investigation being conducted by the Major Incident Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. It is also the subject of an administrative investigation being conducted by the Phoenix Police Department.

Conclusions about whether the actions of the officer are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.
