The Phoenix Police Department is seeking public feedback on a new “Canine” policy.

Once finalized, this policy will guide officers assigned to work with canines across the department. The policy includes the following:

  • Procedures for recordkeeping, handler selections and retirements of canines
  • Standards for canine care, equipment and home/work environments.
  • Guidelines for training, deployment and documentation pertaining to all Department use of canines.
  • Direction for canines critically injured in the line of duty.

The public input and comment period will last 45 days, beginning on Thursday, April 16, and ending on Sunday, May 31.

The public is invited and encouraged to review the policies and submit feedback using the “click here to provide feedback” button at the bottom of the draft policy.

All comments will be reviewed and considered before the policy is finalized.
