Community forum

The Phoenix Police Department is looking for feedback on a new “Youth Interactions” policy. This policy will reflect the department’s commitment to fostering safe, respectful and supportive relationships with youth in our community.

Read a copy of the proposed policy

Once finalized, this policy will:

  • Emphasize effective communication with youth that builds trust, reduces fear and encourages cooperation.
  • Outline how to approach interactions with youth who may be in crisis, have disabilities or require additional cooperation.
  • Guide for conducting interviews and consensual contacts with youth, recognizing these interactions may differ significantly from those with adults.
  • Prioritize removing youth from traumatic incidents when practicable, preventing further trauma.
  • Focus on non-enforcement interactions.

The public input and comment period will last 30 days, beginning on Thursday, October 23, and ending on Saturday, November 22. The public is invited and encouraged to review the policies and submit feedback using the “click here to provide feedback” button at the bottom of the draft policy.

All comments will be reviewed and taken into consideration before the policy is finalized.
