Police Department Strengthens Wellness Efforts with New Resource Center at Northernmost Precinct

Black Mountain Precinct leaders along with Police Foundation leaders smile after holding a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new wellness center located at the precinct.

The Phoenix Police Department opened a new Employee Wellness Center at the Black Mountain Precinct, expanding access to wellness resources for officers and staff across the city.

Located at the department’s northernmost precinct, the space serves about 145 employees assigned to Black Mountain and is open to all more than 3,100 Phoenix Police Department employees, including sworn officers, professional staff and reserve personnel. It offers a closer option for those who cannot regularly travel to the main wellness center at Police Headquarters.

“This center reflects our commitment to supporting employee wellness across the department,” Commander Mykel Moller said. “By adding a fully equipped space here at Black Mountain, we’re giving our people another place to decompress, recover and take care of themselves.”

The Phoenix Police Department continues to prioritize employee wellness by maintaining dedicated wellness spaces citywide. When staff have opportunities to support their own well‑being, they are better prepared to serve the community with focus and resilience.

“Employee wellness is essential to the work we do,” Assistant Chief Sean Kennedy said. “Our staff face physical demands, intense situations and long hours in extreme conditions. Providing accessible wellness resources across the city helps them recover and stay grounded. When our employees are healthy and supported, they are better equipped to serve the community with professionalism and care.”

Thanks to the support of the Phoenix Police Foundation and their partnership in ensuring our officers have the equipment and care they need, Black Mountain’s new wellness space includes massage chairs, light therapy equipment, a zero‑gravity chair, aroma therapy tools, Brain Tap systems, leg compression sleeves and other resources aimed at supporting recovery and overall well‑being.

“It’s reassuring to know that after a long, demanding and often hot day, we have a place to relax and take care of ourselves,” Officer Alicia Strnad said
