We ask that you keep them in your thoughts.   </span></div> <div><span style="font-size:14.6667px;font-family:"Segoe UI", Segoe, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"> <br style=""> </span></div> <div><span style="font-size:14.6667px;font-family:"Segoe UI", Segoe, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Just after 2:00 a.m., officers received multiple calls about vehicles driving erratically in the area of 19th Avenue and Camelback Road. Officers located a car matching the description of one of the vehicles parked at an apartment complex in the area of 15th Avenue and Camelback Road. There was no one in the car. As officers searched the surrounding area, Officer Moldovan found 24-year-old Essa Williams hiding behind a short wall of an apartment patio. Officer Moldavan began giving commands to Williams, who then pulled out a gun and began shooting. Officer Moldovan was struck by multiple bullets.  <br style=""></span></div> <div><span style="font-size:14.6667px;font-family:"Segoe UI", Segoe, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"> <br style=""> </span></div> <div><span style="font-size:14.6667px;font-family:"Segoe UI", Segoe, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Other officers on the scene heard the gunfire and ran in that direction. They were able to take Williams into custody without further incident. No officers discharged their weapons. We will do everything we can to help them through their darkest hours, and we pledge that they will always be a part of the Phoenix Police Family. When they approached the man, he ran off, firing at the officers, hitting them both. The officers were rushed to the hospital, while others responded and took the suspect into custody.</span> </p> </div> <div> <p> <span lang="EN-US" data-contrast="auto">Officer Haney was released from the hospital the next day, protected from more serious injury by his ballistic vest.</span> </p> </div> <div> <p> <span lang="EN-US" data-contrast="auto">“Officer Coolidge has been surrounded by loved ones and blanketed in the prayers of this community since Tuesday night’s shooting,” said Chief Sullivan. “The injuries he sustained after the cowardly acts of another were too much for him to overcome. His legacy will forever be a part of the Phoenix Police Department.”</span> </p> </div> <div> <p> <span lang="EN-US" data-contrast="auto">Officer Coolidge served five years with the Phoenix Police Department.
