Applications Open for Phoenix Public Library’s 2026 Teen Volunteer Program

Phoenix Public Library is accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Teen Volunteer program.

Summer is one of the library’s busiest seasons, and teen volunteers play an essential role in welcoming visitors, supporting programs and helping create positive experiences for families participating in summer activities. Volunteers gain customer service experience, develop workplace and communication skills, build connections with peers and may earn school credit while giving back to their community.

Library locations across the Phoenix Public Library system need teens ages 13 to 17 to volunteer for the 2026 Summer Reading program. This is an opportunity to learn customer service skills, build confidence and strengthen résumés. Volunteers will work with other teens as they help young children become better readers.

Duties include shelving, signing up customers for the summer reading game, preparing supplies, assisting with program setup and cleanup, and performing other assigned tasks.

Requirements: Applicants must be at least 13 years old. Volunteers must be able to complete a minimum of four weeks of service over the summer and attend one online volunteer orientation session. Four orientation sessions will be offered in May, and volunteers are required to attend only one. A signed Volunteer PHX Permission Form and waiver must be submitted on or before the first day of service.

After applying, staff will contact applicants to schedule interviews. Once accepted, candidates must attend one of the four online orientation sessions in May. Additional training will take place at library branches from late May through early June.
