Phoenix families are invited to celebrate kindness, creativity, and emotional well-being during Mister Rogers Week at Phoenix Public Library. From March 16 through March 21, library locations across the city will host special storytimes, STEAM activities, crafts, and family programs inspired by the life and legacy of Fred Rogers.

For more than three decades, Rogers welcomed millions of children into his television home through Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. With his signature sweater and sneakers, he created a space where children felt safe, valued, and understood. His message of kindness, emotional honesty, and acceptance continues to resonate today through programs like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and through community celebrations like Mister Rogers Week.

Throughout the week, Phoenix Public Library will offer themed programs designed primarily for families with young children and elementary-age students, while welcoming neighbors of all ages to participate. Activities will include:

These programs support early literacy, social-emotional learning, and creativity—helping children build the confidence and curiosity needed to succeed in school and beyond.

The week will wrap up with a special Be My Neighbor Day community celebration on Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at South Mountain Community Library. This free community event will feature special guests, including Mychal Threets, host of Reading Rainbow, and puppeteer Stacey Gordon

Mister Rogers believed deeply in the inherent worth of every child and the importance of community. Mister Rogers Week honors his birthday anniversary each March and invites families to explore the values he championed—kindness, empathy, curiosity, and neighborliness.

Families are encouraged to visit their local Phoenix Public Library location to participate in programs throughout the week and experience the joy of learning together.
