Cadets have the opportunity to assist the Phoenix Police Department. They can broaden their understanding and firsthand knowledge of the challenges and job skills that make up their community's police service. In addition to gaining a working knowledge of police work, the participants have the opportunity to give of themselves to their community. Although the Cadets are law enforcement oriented, they are volunteers and do not serve as police employees, sworn or civilian.
You are required to attend an Orientation in order to apply for the Phoenix Police Cadet program. Prospects under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. During an Orientation you will learn more about the requirements for our Program. If you are still interested, you will be given the documents needed (Phoenix Police Cadet Application Packet) for the Testing phase of the process. Please contact Officer Jamie Brooks at Jamie.firstname.lastname@example.org for future Orientation dates.
Once contacted with a testing date:
Download and fill out the Cadet Application Packet
You will be REQUIRED to bring the completed documents with you to test. See included, “MANDATORY DOCUMENTS FOR TESTING NIGHT".
Medical Packet part C (Physician Physical can be turned in later upon acceptance into the Program).
You will be given a Written Test (12 questions) on the attached “ENTRANCE EXAM STUDY GUIDE" you must pass the test to proceed onto the oral board and fingerprinting for your background screening.
The Oral board is not something you need to study for. Questions from a 2-person panel will be on topics concerning your individual personalities, accomplishments, activities, and history.
We request you view the video here https://youtu.be/r0CZiBHrujk so you better understand the Program prior to submitting any questions.
The Phoenix Police Department's Cadet Program meets every Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. Locations may vary depending on the type of training.
Cadets need to email Officer Jamie Brooks at Jamie.Brooks@phoenix.gov for information on upcoming orientations. If you meet the qualifications for a Cadet, you will receive an application form, background form, and a study guide for the entrance exam. An Advisor will meet with you to answer any questions you might have and help you with the application process.
Your background packet, entrance exam, and fingerprints will be reviewed. After the successful completion of the exam and background process, you will become a Recruit. Recruits will be placed on probation for three months. During the probation period you must attend all meetings and compete 8 hours of community service each month.
