PHOENIX PLANNED MAJOR STREET RESTRICTIONS – UPDATED SEPTEMBER 22

​Motorists should be aware of the following City of Phoenix roadway restrictions and closures and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.

New Restrictions​

BELL ROAD – 19TH TO 35TH AVENUES

Bell Road between 19th and 35th avenues is scheduled to be closed beginning 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, through 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.

All traffic on Bell Road will be directed to Union Hills Drive or Greenway Parkway via 19th and 35th avenues.

Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The closure is required to accommodate the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Wrong Way Driver Detection System construction project.

CENTRAL AVENUE – INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD TO CLARENDON AVENUE

Northbound Central Avenue between Indian School Road and Clarendon Avenue is scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, and Sunday, Sept. 24.

Pedestrian and business access may be detoured.

Police officers may be on-site while construction is being performed.

CENTRAL AVENUE AT WATKINS ROAD

Northbound Central Avenue at Watkins Road is restricted to one lane on a 24-hour basis beginning Thursday, Sept. 21, through December.

The northbound bike lane will be restricted.

Local and business access will be maintained.

The restrictions are required to accommodate sanitary sewer repairs overseen by the city of Phoenix Water Services Department.

DUNLAP AVENUE AT INTERSTATE 17

Dunlap Avenue at Interstate 17 is scheduled to be closed beginning 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, through 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.

All traffic on Dunlap Road will be directed to Peoria or Northern avenues via the Interstate 17 frontage roads.

Pedestrian and business access will be maintained.

Bus stops along Thunderbird Road may be affected.  For bus stop information, please contact Valley Metro at 602-253-5000.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The closure is required to accommodate the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Wrong Way Driver Detection System construction project.

ROOSEVELT STREET – 57TH TO 59TH AVENUES

Roosevelt Street between 57th and 59th avenues is scheduled to be closed on a 24-hour basis beginning 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23.

Eastbound Roosevelt Street will be directed south to Van Buren Street at 59th Avenue, east to 51st Avenue and north to Roosevelt Street.

Westbound Roosevelt Street will be directed south to Van Buren Street at 51st Avenue, west to 59th Avenue and north to Roosevelt Street.

Southbound left turns and northbound right turns will be restricted at 59th Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

Local and business access will be maintained.

SEVENTH AVENUE AT McDOWELL ROAD

Seventh Avenue at McDowell Road is scheduled to be restricted on a 24-hour basis beginning 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, through 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.

Southbound Seventh Avenue will be restricted to one lane.

Southbound Seventh Avenue left-turn lane will be restricted.

Westbound McDowell Road will be restricted to two lanes.

All other lanes will be maintained.

Local, business access, and bus stops will be maintained.

The restrictions are required to accommodate a replacement of existing water line valves project overseen by the city of Phoenix Water Services Department.

SEVENTH AVENUE – FILLMORE TO ROOSEVELT STREETS

Seventh Avenue between Fillmore and Roosevelt streets is scheduled to be restricted to two lanes in each direction on a 24-hour basis beginning Monday, Sept. 25, through Friday, Oct.13.

Left turns at Seventh Avenue and at Roosevelt Street may be restricted during evening hours.

Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained.

These restrictions are required to accommodate a private development project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department.

THOMAS ROAD – SEVENTH TO 19TH AVENUES

Thomas Road between Seventh and 19th avenues is currently restricted to one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes on a 24-hour basis through October.

Cross streets that intersect with Thomas Road will have restrictions along the curb lanes.

Local and business access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The restrictions are required to accommodate sidewalk and ramp project overseen by the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department.

THUNDERBIRD ROAD AT INTERSTATE 17

Thunderbird Road at Interstate 17 is scheduled to be closed beginning 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, through 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.

All traffic on Thunderbird Road will be directed to Greenway or Cactus roads via the Interstate 17 frontage roads.

Pedestrian and business access will be maintained.

15TH AVENUE AT THOMAS ROAD

15th Avenue at Thomas Road is currently restricted to one lane in each direction on a 24-hour basis through October.

The bike and bus lanes along 15th Avenue will be restricted.

Thomas Road will be restricted to one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes.

Local and business access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The restrictions are required to accommodate a sidewalk and ramp project overseen by the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department.

19TH AVENUE – HATCHER ROAD TO PEORIA AVENUE

19th Avenue between Hatcher Road and Peoria Avenue is currently restricted to one lane in each direction through June 2018.

Left turns will be maintained at Peoria Avenue.

35TH AVENUE AND INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD AT GRAND AVENUE (US 60)

35th Avenue and Indian School Road at Grand Avenue (US 60) is scheduled to be restricted on a 24-hour basis, for approximately 60 days, beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

Lane restrictions will change, as the project progresses.

Initial setup:

•  35th Avenue restricted to two lanes in each direction.
•  35th Avenue left-turn lanes will be closed.
•  Northbound 35th Avenue right-turn lane will be closed.
•  Grand Avenue restricted to two lanes in each direction.
•  Indian School Road frontage roads will be restricted to one lane.

Follow-up restrictions:

•  35th Avenue restricted to two lanes in each direction.
•  35th Avenue left-turn lanes will be closed.
•  Grand Avenue restricted to two lanes in each direction.
•  Alternating Grand Avenue left-turn lanes will be closed.  One left-turn lane in each direction will be maintained.
•  Indian School Road frontage roads will be restricted to one lane.

Full closures are expected and advanced notification will be provided via on-site variable message boards.

All other lanes will be maintained, as construction permits.

Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained.

The closures and restrictions are required to accommodate the 35th Avenue and Indian School Road at Grand Avenue (US 60) BNSF Railroad Crossing project overseen by the city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department.

59TH AVENUE – ROOSEVELT STREET TO INTERSTATE 10  REVISED

Northbound 59th Avenue between Roosevelt Street and the Interstate 10 freeway is scheduled to be closed  from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, and Sunday, Sept. 24.

Through northbound traffic on 59th Avenue will be redirected to 51st or 67th avenues at Van Buren Street.

Southbound 59th Avenue through traffic will be maintained.

Southbound left turns will be restricted at Roosevelt Street.

Local and business access will be maintained.

GLOBAL ENERGY 5K – 10K

The event will start and finish at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium, 5999 East Van Buren Street from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.

The following streets will be closed or restricted 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24:

•  Van Buren Street – 48th Street to Galvin Park Parkway
•  Galvin Park Parkway –  Washington Street to McDowell Road
•  56th Street – Washington to Van Buren streets
•  McDowell Road at Galvin Park Parkway

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

ROOSEVELT ROW – CHILE PEPPER FESTIVAL

The event will take place on Roosevelt Street between First and Third streets from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.

The following streets will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2:

•  Roosevelt Street – First to Third streets
•  Second Street – Garfield to Portland streets

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

Third Street will be open to through traffic during this period.

All streets will be open to normal traffic by 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2.

Colter Street – 27th Avenue and southbound Interstate 17 frontage road, full closure due to the installation of a new traffic signal, project overseen by the city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department, completion scheduled for September.

Tatum Boulevard – Shea Boulevard to Cactus Road, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department repaving project, completion scheduled for September.
