Day 9: FAMILY ADVENTURE: Capture transpiration in plants
Perform an experiment to capture evidence of transpiration, an important part of the water cycle.
<div class="ExternalClassCCFBFDD9321943A4BCB489130397DC2C"><p>Are plants part of the water cycle? How? Perform the following experiment to discover how water gets out of a plant.</p><ol><li>Collect materials: zip lock bags, rubber bands, living plants (indoors or outdoors) and the Science Notebook.</li><li>Take each zip lock bag and wrap it around the leaves of a tree or a bush. The more plants you select, the more data you will collect.</li><li>Use a rubber band to secure the zip lock bag securely around the leaves.</li><li>Wait at least one hour.</li><li>Record what you observed in your Science Notebook.</li><li>Discuss with others what you found.</li><li>Write predictions and thoughts about why in the Science Notebook.</li><li>Read about transpiration online.</li><br></ol></div>
