Day 17: Explore the watersheds of ArizonaDay 17: Explore the watersheds of ArizonaLook at a map of the watersheds of Arizona and identify your local watershed.

A watershed is a land area through which water drains to a low point. It's important to care for watersheds because most of our drinking water comes from snowpack on the mountain peaks. Since it doesn't snow here in Phoenix, our water travels a long way over thousands of miles of land to get to us. That land must be cared for in order for our water to be high quality in the right quantity as well. For today's activity, review this map of the watersheds in Arizona and see if you can identify the watershed in which you live. What is the source of the water? What pathways does it travel over the land?

https://www.phoenix.gov/waterservicessite/Lists/WAMCalendar/Attachments/47/Verde River by C.
