Use and Sale of Consumer Fireworks

The Phoenix Fire Code prevents the sale and use of consumer fireworks in the City of Phoenix. However, Arizona State Law supersedes this requirement during specific dates ​and allows the sale and use. Arizona Revised Statutes section 36-1606 regulates when permissible fireworks can be bought, sold, and used in Arizona.  ​ The law does not apply to novelty items: snappers, snap caps, glow worms, snakes, party poppers, and sparklers.

Permissible & Prohibited Fireworks Use and Sales

Fireworks sales and use are only allowed during the dates specified by state law and are strictly prohibited at all other times under the Phoenix Fire Code. For updates on sales and use dates, as well as allowed and prohibited items, please refer to the State Law.

Legal Sale Dates

  • April 25 - May 6
  • May 20 - July 6
  • December 10 - January 3
  • Two days before the start of Diwali through the third day of Diwali each year

Legal Use Dates

  • May 4 - May 6
  • June 24 - July 6
  • December 26 - January 4
  • Second and third days of Diwali each year.

Permissible Use Fireworks

  • Sparklers (Ground and Wire Stick)
  • Smoke Devices
  • Spinners & Fountains (Includes Ground Spinners & Sparkling Wheels)

Prohibited Use Fireworks

  • Rockets & Aerial Fireworks (Sky Rockets, Bottle rockets, Aerial Shells)
  • Explosive Devices
  • Anything that rises into the air and explodes is prohibited.
