Residential Building

Residential development includes single-family homes, duplex, and townhome projects. 

Construction permits are required for:

  • New homes
  • Remodels or additions, such as:
    • Garage/carport construction or conversion
    • Porch enclosures
    • Demolition
    • Patio covers
    • Fences/walls
    • Other construction projects

For residential photovoltaic (solar) submissions, email pdd.photovoltaic.residential@phoenix.gov or visit the SolarAPP/Photovoltaic Projects site.

SHAPE PHX Portal

Effective April 27, 2026 - You can now visit the SHAPE PHX portal for access to NEW Commercial Plan Review and Inspections permits:

  • Residential Plan Review
  • Permitting and Inspections
  • Licenses and Operating Permits

Appointments - Residential Standard Plan Review

Appointments are available for:

  • Standard plans for single-family residences, duplex buildings, or townhomes
    • Up to 5 standard plans or revisions per builder, per week
    • Up to 20 submittals per weekly appointment

Appointments - Residential Projects

Appointments are available for:
  • Custom homes and ADU's
  • Addition and/or remodels
  • Repairs or replacements
