Campbell Avenue from 59th Avenue to 51st Avenue
A future paving project along Campbell Avenue from 59th Avenue to 51st Avenue provides an opportunity for the Phoenix Street Transportation Department to review restriping options that would better accommodate the needs of all roadway users.
The number of travel lanes will remain the same, but proposed options could narrow the lanes to add a dedicated parking lane, add bike lanes where they don’t currently exist, or add buffers to existing bike lanes. Proposed options may remove parking from existing bike lanes.
Bike lanes add space between people driving and people walking or biking for increased protection from vehicles, improved safety and added comfort. Additionally, the visual narrowing of the lane widths to accommodate bike lanes will help guide vehicles and deter speeding.
Pavement maintenance (new asphalt) is scheduled for spring 2025. Restriping will happen shortly after paving is completed.
Proposed Changes
The department is proposing the following for this corridor:
- Option A: No change - one driving lane in each direction, with bike lanes and on-street parking in various configurations throughout the corridor
- Option B: One driving lane in each direction, with a bike lane on both sides of the roadway and on-street parking on the south side of the roadway
- Option C: One driving lane in each direction, with a buffered bike lane on both sides of the roadway and no on-street parking throughout the corridor
