Fillmore Street from Central Avenue to 7th Street
In spring 2022, the Phoenix Street Transportation Department removed parking and two traffic lanes on Fillmore Street between Central Avenue and 7th Street, and added buffered and protected bike lanes on both sides of that corridor. Prior to the proposed changes, there were sharrows and a continuous green stripe in the outside driving lanes.
City staff used stakeholder input gathered during various outreach efforts and engineering judgment to select the final design.

Other bicycle infrastructure improvements in the downtown core that would enhance this already completed project include:
- Fillmore Street from 7th Avenue to Central Avenue bike lane feasibility study (in progress)
- 3rd and 5th Avenues Improvement Project - featuring Phoenix's first two-way protected bike lane along 3rd Avenue from Roosevelt Street to McDowell Road (completed in 2021)
- Garfield-Edison Park proposed bike improvements (Villa/Fillmore Bike Boulevard) (future project)
In April 2023, this corridor was designated as the Hans Hughes Memorial Bikeway. Hughes was a Downtown Phoenix Inc. Ambassador who passed away in September 2021 after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle near 1st and Fillmore streets.
A live virtual public meeting was held on December 14, 2021 at 6 p.m. via Webex. A video recording of the meeting is available above and on YouTube.
