City-owned and City-managed Senior Communities
The Housing Department has three senior apartment communities that are city-owned and city-managed: Fillmore Gardens, Maryvale Parkway Terrace and Sunnyslope Manor. All three properties serve seniors 62 or older and persons with disabilities. They are located near bus routes, shopping centers, grocery stores, senior centers, parks, hospitals and pharmacies. These communities are specially designed to provide comfortable living for elderly residents. The city of Phoenix does not provide assisted living; however, residents are welcome to secure their own assistance when medically necessary. These communities are subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with rental cost based on household income.
