Stage 1 Fire Restriction Activated
Due to elevated fire danger, the City of Phoenix has implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.
All consumer fireworks are prohibited within one mile of mountain preserves, desert parks, regional parks, conservation areas, national forests, and wilderness areas.

Choice Neighborhoods (CN) is a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to transform distressed neighborhoods and public housing into mixed-income neighborhoods linking housing improvements with appropriate services, schools, public assets, transportation, and access to jobs. Choice Neighborhoods is focused on three core goals: housing, people and neighborhoods.
Since July 2018, HUD has awarded the City of Phoenix $42.5 million through a Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant. This grant, along with over $300 million in leverage, is allowing the Housing Department to transform and revitalize the Edison-Eastlake Community including replacing 577 obsolete public housing units with over 1,000 units of mixed-income housing; neighborhood improvements like new and expanded parks and open/green spaces; and additional supportive services programs at two new community centers in the neighborhood offering medical and behavioral health services, Head Start classes, and other important community resources.
Innovate PHX | Bridging the Digital Divide with the Hive
The Housing Department, in partnership with the Institute for Digital Inclusion and Acceleration (IDIA), has launched two digital equity centers: the Hive at Aeroterra and the Hive at CTEC. These cutting-edge centers offer community members free access to computers and iPads, equipped with the latest technology. Each Hive is designed with a variety of resources, including computers, 3D printers, interactive sensory tools, and Digital Navigators who provide on-site digital skills training. The aim of these centers is to bridge the digital divide, ensuring everyone has equal access to technology and the opportunity to build digital skills.
The City of Phoenix Housing Department applied for and was awarded a fiscal year 2024 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant for Marcos de Niza Apartments and the surrounding community. If awarded, the grant will be used to guide the development of a Transformation Plan to redevelop Marcos de Niza Apartments. The Plan will also identify targeted neighborhood improvements in the surrounding Marcos de Niza and Grant Park neighborhoods as well as a supportive services program that meets the needs and interests of Marcos de Niza residents.
This community planning process offers many ways for residents to get involved and provide input. Opportunities include community workshops, focus groups, and Resident and Youth Leadership Councils. The planning process is anticipated to take 24 to 30 months. Once complete, the entire Transformation Plan will serve as a roadmap for future public and private investment in the community.
