Arizona Prepares for State's First NCAA Women's Final Four
From a downtown fan festival to a youth dribbling parade through city streets, Arizona will turn championship weekend into a citywide celebration when it hosts the NCAA Women’s Final Four for the first time, April 2-5 in downtown Phoenix.
Organizers from the NCAA and the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee – joined by leaders from Arizona State University, City of Phoenix, ESPN, Helios Education Foundation, Player 15 Group and the Valley’s professional sports community – announced Tuesday a slate of free, family-friendly events tied to Arizona’s first NCAA Women’s Final Four.
“The NCAA Women’s Final Four is a milestone moment for Phoenix, and we’re excited to turn championship weekend into a citywide celebration,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. “With free, family-friendly events throughout downtown, the week will put Phoenix’s love for women’s basketball on full display.”
All surrounding Women’s Final Four events are free and open to the public, including:
- Women’s Final Four Tourney Town Presented by Capital One, a fan festival inside Phoenix Convention Center with games, giveaways, special appearances, photo opportunities, licensed merchandise and interactive experiences
- Four It All Fest, an outdoor block party featuring live music, food trucks, an outdoor court, and screens for viewing of the women’s and men’s Final Four games
- Women’s Final Four Super Saturday Practice Presented by Samsung Galaxy, the week’s only open practice, giving fans access to watch the final two teams prepare for the national championship game
- Women’s Final Four Bounce Presented by GEICO, a basketball dribbling parade for ages 18 & under through the streets of downtown Phoenix
- Super Saturday Concert Presented by AT&T, a free outdoor concert at Margaret T. Hance Park, with the headliner to be announced in early March
- Beyond The Baseline, a series of talks, panels and guest speakers designed to empower and equip women in sport and business
Registration for Bounce and Super Saturday Practice is now open.
“As the success of the women’s basketball championship grows every year, we’re excited that Phoenix will host this year’s Women’s Final Four for the first time ever,” said Lynn Holzman, NCAA vice president of women’s basketball. “Phoenix has been an incredible partner, and we’re excited to build on the success of women’s basketball and crown our national champion in April.”
In addition to fan experiences, organizers highlighted community initiatives tied to the championship, including the Legacy Project, a revitalization of the Washington Activity Center in the Alhambra Village neighborhood of Phoenix, and Read to the Final Four, a statewide literacy competition encouraging thousands of Arizona third graders to build lifelong reading habits.
“Hosting the NCAA Women’s Final Four for the first time is a milestone moment for Phoenix, and we want the entire community to share in the celebration,” said Jay Parry, CEO of the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee. “With free fan events, community programs and opportunities to experience the championship up close, there are so many ways for people to get involved and celebrate this historic moment for our state.”
