Phoenix launches a Citywide food drive to assist residents experiencing food insecurity during the holidays.
Councilwoman Debra Stark Champions New Shaded Bus Shelter for District 3 Resident
District 3 Councilwoman Debra Stark is proud to announce the installation of a new shaded bus shelter near 10th Street and Hatcher Road, adjacent to the Fry’s Food Store. The project was initiated in response to a heartfelt request from a longtime resident, Bethany, who faced health challenges while waiting for public transit in the Arizona heat.
The new shelter provides much-needed relief from the sun and heat for elderly and vulnerable residents. The initiative was a collaborative effort between Councilwoman Stark’s office, multiple city departments such as the Public Transit, Street Transportation and the Neighborhood Services Departments. We would really like to acknowledge the City depts have assisted with installing the bus shelter.
“I am so happy for the new bus shelter at my local Fry's,” said Bethany, a District 3 resident who advocated for the shaded stop. “It was awful standing for up to 30 minutes in the sun. Due to my diabetes, I easily become overheated, and, by the time I got home, I would be miserable. Thank you to Councilwoman Debra Stark's team and the City.”
Councilwoman Stark emphasized the importance of listening to community voices:
“This project is a great example of how a single voice can lead to meaningful change. We’re committed to making Phoenix a more livable city for everyone, and that starts with ensuring our public spaces are safe, accessible, and comfortable.
The shaded bus shelter is part of a broader effort to enhance public transportation infrastructure across District 3, with a focus on equity, safety, and community well-being.
