Councilwoman Debra Stark’s Statement on the US Department of Justice Investigation Closure
This morning, the US Department of Justice announced that they will be closing the investigation into and retracting the findings of constitutional violations of the Phoenix Police Department. Like many Phoenicians, I was very concerned about the findings of the DOJ report, but knew that our police department was already working on necessary changes.
Regardless of today’s announcement, I remain committed to the Continuous Improvement Plan set forth by former Interim Chief Michael Sullivan and continued by Acting Chief Dennis Orender to continue to make the Phoenix Police Department better than it already is.
