Councilwoman Guardado Celebrates Opening of Myrtle Path
Councilwoman Betty Guardado, Street Transportation leadership, members of North Glen Square Neighborhood Association and residents gathered to officially open Myrtle Path.
Located along Myrtle Avenue between 31st and 32nd Avenues, this new multi-use path transformed an underutilized space into a vibrant, welcoming neighborhood connection.
“This area was a simple, un-lit dirt alley, but it has always served as a desirable and convenient midblock access for residents,” said Councilwoman Guardado, who represents District 5. “You, the community members of North Glen Square Neighborhood, played a vital role in putting this into action, speaking up for something you need.”
After years of planning and collaboration, hosting multiple community meetings and clean-ups, this multi‑use pathway features:
- 457 linear feet of 10-foot accessible multi-use pathway
- 25 newly planted trees
- 140 shrubs
- Upgraded pathway solar lighting
- ADA accessible ramps
- New modern fencing
“When our team took on this project, we knew how meaningful this was going to be for everyone in the community to see this area transform into the beautiful path you see behind me,” said Briiana Velez, City of Phoenix Street Transportation Director. “My team and I worked closely with Councilwoman Guardado and the community to come up with a plan to clean up the area and re-develop this space, creating a safer, more enjoyable route for neighbors to walk, bike, or roll through the community.”
