Phoenix Reopens Historic Eastlake Pool Following Major Renovation

The City of Phoenix celebrated the grand reopening of the historic Eastlake Pool on Saturday, marking a major investment in one of Phoenix’s most culturally significant communities. City officials, community advocates and residents gathered for remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the pool for public swimming.

Eastlake Pool, the oldest operating public pool in Phoenix, now features modern amenities that improve accessibility, safety and opportunities for year-round recreation, including:

  • Increased dive well depth to 12 feet
  • New heater to heat the main pool during cooler temperatures
  • Beach-entry play pool with splash features, slides, tumble buckets and spray cannon
  • ADA improvements for accessibility across both pools
  • New dedicated ADA restroom with ADA light fixtures, ADA shower, and adult changing table
  • New shade structure
  • New emergency exits added to the pool deck
  • Upgraded security and deck lighting
"For generations, residents have come to the historic Eastlake Pool to cool off, learn to swim, create cherished memories, and connect with their community," said Mayor Kate Gallego. "Reinvesting in Eastlake Pool honors that history and furthers our goal of ensuring that every resident has access to safe, modern and accessible parks and recreation facilities. I’m committed to continuing to prioritize our neighborhoods and provide spaces where memories are made and communities thrive."

"Eastlake Pool has always been more than just a place to swim; it’s part of the legacy of this neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Kesha Hodge Washington, who represents District 8. “For families here, it’s a gathering space and a place where kids grow confidence and feel connected to their community. This project is equity in action, honoring Eastlake’s history while investing in its future and ensuring every child and family has a place to enjoy summer days and create lasting memories.”
“Our goal with this renovation was simple: to create a safe, welcoming place where every member of the community can feel included and have fun,” said Cynthia Aguilar, Parks and Recreation Department Director. These renovations honor the legacy of Eastlake, while bringing the pool into the 21st century, with improved safety, accessibility and amenities for the whole family. Seeing residents enjoy the new Eastlake Pool reminds me why we do this work; it’s about fostering community and providing meaningful recreational experiences for everyone in Phoenix.”

With Eastlake Pool now officially open, the Parks and Recreation Department is excited to introduce programming in November 2025. Residents can register now for affordable youth and adult swim lessons, as well as Aquafit classes designed to promote fitness and water safety. With upgraded play and splash features, the pool offers something for every resident, restoring Eastlake Pool as a hub for community connection and cooling off during the summer months.
