Phoenix Public Library Celebrates Black History Month with Programs and Virtual Art Exhibit

Phoenix Public Library invites the community to celebrate Black History Month with a variety of free programs and experiences throughout February, including in-person events at library locations across the city and a virtual art exhibit available online.

Featured in-person events throughout the month include Ernie Barnes–inspired painting workshops, a Black History Month poetry-writing workshop, Motown karaoke, family-friendly crafts and storytimes, and educational presentations spotlighting trailblazing Black artists and performers. Movie screenings including Hidden FiguresRed Tails and more.

In addition to in-person programs, the library will debut the Celebrate Black Voices Virtual Art Exhibit on its website beginning February 1. The virtual exhibit features artwork created by local K–12 students inspired by Black history, culture and influential figures. The exhibit highlights young artists’ perspectives and provides an opportunity for the community to experience and celebrate Black voices.

All programs are free and open to the public. Dates, times and locations vary by event. For a full schedule of events and to view the virtual exhibit, visit PhoenixPublicLibrary.org.
