Through December 2019, the Parks and Recreation Department will operate a pilot program that expands the Silent Sunday event to every Sunday of the month. During the pilot program, the park’s main roadway will be closed at the one-mile mark into the park from 5 to 10 a.m. on the first, second, third and fifth Sunday; while the fourth Sunday will operate as it has in the past, with all roadways closed from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. (park operating hours). On Silent Sunday, park visitors who would like to park near the main Central Ave. entrance can do so in the Activity Complex, which can be accessed just inside the entry gate and within proximity to several popular trails and the South Mountain Environmental Education Center. Trailheads not accessed via the main Central Ave. entrance are not impacted by the Silent Sunday closures. Learn more by visiting the South Mountain Park/Preserve webpage.
