Hiring Bonus

​​ Hiring Bonus for Police Recruits - $7,500

  • $2,500 upon initial hire.
  • $2,500 on successful completion of the Phoenix Regional Police Academy.
  • $2,500 on successful completion of the Probationary period as a Police Officer. ​

Hiring Bonus for Lateral Police Officers - $7,500

  • $3,750 upon swearing-in as a Phoenix Police Officer. 
  • $3,750 upon successful completion of the Probationary period.
**Applicants must include the employee name and the city employee ID number on the original HR application for the current city employee to be eligible for the $2,500.00 referral incentive.**

Applicants who possess an Associates Degree (2 yr college degree) or HIGHER, will not be required to take the PHXPD Written Exam​​​
(In-state applicants with a college degree are still required to register for the POPAT by following the link below,​ in STEP 2)​
If you are applying from out of state and have an AA Degree or higher, DO NOT schedule a trip out here until you have Step 1 completed and are assigned a Background Investigator.  Once you have completed Step 1, call employment services at 
602-262-6925 for further instruction regarding the hiring process. 

Step 1: Complete AZPOST Per​sonal History Packet

  • Complete an AZPOST Personal History Statement (PH) at
    Click here --> my.azpost.gov and share with Phoenix Police Department. Record the AZPOST Form ID number for your records as this will be needed in the next step to register for the written/online exam.  

Step 2: Register For Written or Online Examination

  • Register For a Written or Online Test here: 
    • Register for Police Re​cruit Exam <-- Click here 
      (if an oracle page pops up, close page and click link again.)

      • You will receive a confirmation email approximately 1-2 days prior to the exa​​m date.
    • In search box, type​  "Police Recruit"
    • Online Test: Generally for out of state applicants. To speed up the process, we highly encourage in-state applicants to take the exam in person.
      • You will receive a sign-up email for the online test in approximately 5-7 business days. ​​​​​
  • Applicant Information Sheet (Required)​

    **In order to expedite your application please bring notarized copies of the above PDF documents with you to the written examination.**

STEP 3: Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT)

Offered the same day as the written exam. The test will be administered at the Phoenix Regional Police Academy 10001 S. 15th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85041.

The POPAT consists of the following events:

  1. Solid Fence Climb
  2. Chain Link Fence Climb
  3. 165lb Body Drag
  4. 99 Yard Obstacle (agility) Course
  5. 500 Yard Run

**Qualified applicants will be contacted after completion of the physical agility assessment (POPAT).**

If you haven't been contacted within 2-3 weeks, call the Employment Services Bureau (ESB) at 602-262-6925 to find out the status of your background packet.

 

STEP 4: Background Interview

After successful completion of the POPAT, applicants will be contacted by a background investigator to schedule an interview.


STEP 5: Polygraph Examination

Applicants will be given a polygraph examination (lie detector test) administered by a trained, professional examiner. The test will confirm information noted on the applicant's background packet.


STEP 6: Psychological Test

Applicants will be evaluated by a licensed psychologist.


STEP 7: Medical Examination

Applicants will undergo a complete medical examination given by a licensed physician


STEP 8: Controlled Substance Screening

Applicants will be required to submit to a urinalysis at some point in the hiring process.

Police Communications Operators answer calls from the public and communicate via radio with police officers regarding all types of emergencies and non-emergencies. The City of Phoenix is seeking individuals who demonstrate the ability to calmly work with the citizens of Phoenix and police officers while using a multi-line telephone system, radio network panel, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to receive, prioritize, and process calls for police services.
