What is Neighborhood College?
Neighborhood College is a one-of-a-kind collaboration of in-person and virtual workshops, and hands-on learning experiences brought to you by multiple city departments and external partners. The intent of the program is to provide each participant with knowledge about the city's programs, services and resources; the tools to access those resources; and the skills and ideas with which to build positive, sustainable communities.

Block Watch Grant Writing Workshop - (in-person)
When: Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, 6 to7:30 p.m.
Where: Washington Activity Center Multi-purpose room; 2240 W Citrus Way
Join us to learn how to apply for Block Watch grants to support neighborhood safety and crime prevention projects. Block Watches, Neighborhood Associations, Business Alliances, and other groups listed with Neighborhood Services can apply for a Block Watch Grant for up to $15,000.
In this workshop you’ll learn:
- The Block Watch Grant process
- How to submit a compelling Block Watch Grant application
- How to write a clear narrative on Crime Prevention/Safety/Quality of Life
- Tips for writing a strong and realistic Budget Narrative
This interactive session is ideal for both first-time and seasoned Block Watch grant writers. The workshop is presented by volunteers from the Black Mountain Community Alliance who have more than 10 years of experience with submitting successful Block Watch grant applications.
This is NOT the required training provided by the Neighborhood Block Watch Grant Program (NBWGP).

Revitalizing Your Neighborhood: Pass the Brush
Is your neighborhood in need of a facelift? Are you wanting to increase your property value? Resident Jack Sandner, from Trails North neighborhood, shares in his presentation how he was able to turn his dated neighborhood into a vibrant beautiful one.
Topics covered: Engaging Your Neighbors and Community; Working with the Neighborhood Services; Creating a Project Plan; Funding the Project; Sustaining the Project.
A variety of topics are discussed in the Code Compliance 101 Workshop. The video presentation helps participants learn about NSD's Code Enforcement Policy, the eight most common blight violations, the code enforcement process, the court citation process, how and where to report blight and other issues to the city, information on volunteer programs and other resources available.
Zero Waste 2050
Neighborhood College is made possible through a partnership with the Phoenix Public Works Department, leading the charge for Phoenix to become zero-waste by 2050.
