The Water Services Department is seeking a Water Resource Specialist to participate in the development, design, and implementation of the Department's water conservation programs.
Water Resource Specialists are assigned to operate specific educational, technical, or regulatory programs, and/or to conduct research and statistical analysis to determine effectiveness of selected water conservation measures. This position interacts with internal Divisions, other City Departments, and external representatives or customers, and consists mainly of field work. This position reports to the Water Conservation Project Manager, who supervises the Department's water conservation functions.
Other duties include but not limited to:
- Compiling and analyzing data and understanding of water demand and conservation issues.
- Traveling to residential and non-residential customers and providing technical expertise about landscape water use, irrigation system efficiency, and irrigation system design.
- Supporting community outreach and programs that assist and educate customers about water conservation and efficiency to prepare for possible drought and shortage.
- Attending community events and workshops, and educational programs.
This temporary position will be funded through December 31, 2027, with a possibility to be made regular in a future budget cycle. The temporary positions will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city's retirement program. If the successful candidates are current City employees, all benefits will still be applicable, and the employees will still contribute to their pension. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered at-will and employees may be separated at any time.
