Meetings

The Phoenix Human Relations Commission meets monthly on the third Tuesdays of the month. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. located in the Phoenix Fire Administration, 2nd Floor, Great Room, 150 S. 12th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034. The commission is staffed by the Equal Opportunity Department. All meetings are open to the public. The commission invites interested persons to join in working on its activities and projects.  

Membership 

The Phoenix Human Relations Commission is made up of 17 volunteer citizens appointed by the mayor and City Council. It advises the City Council on human relations issues and assists in implementing the city's policy against discrimination. The commission operates or supports various programs designed to promote positive intergroup relations.

​Call for Annual Nominations for Human Rights Awards

The Phoenix Commission on Human Relations (HRC) is accepting nominations for its 2025 Human Rights Awards program to recognize individuals who have made an impact on the quality of life in Phoenix.

Nominees are sought annually for the Calvin C. Goode Lifetime Achievement and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Living the Dream awards that will be presented at the Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration in January.

The Living the Dream Award recognizes individuals who embody the ideas of Dr. King through their continued personal commitment to human relations and social justice.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes exceptional individuals who have made Phoenix a better place to live through a lifelong dedication to promoting social and economic justice, defending civil rights, and enhancing the dignity of all people. Nominations must emulate the lifelong dedication of Calvin C. Goode.
