Councilman Kevin Robinson's Statement on the Upcoming Retirement of City Manager Jeff Barton

“After more than 27 years of dedicated service, I would like to extend a well-earned thank you to my friend, City Manager Jeff Barton.

Jeff’s steady leadership helped guide the city through challenging times with integrity and transparency, particularly when it comes to public safety and the wellbeing of our residents.  Jeff navigated a difficult Department of Justice investigation; holding both the City and Department of Justice accountable. He also had the foresight to purchase the building at 100 West Washington, which is already proving to be one of the best police department headquarters in the country.  

Jeff’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was a model for the rest of the country, balancing maintaining city services while avoiding any layoffs during a public health and economic crisis. It has been an honor to work with Jeff both during my time with the Phoenix Police Department and now in my capacity as a City Councilman. I wish him all of the best in his next chapter in life.”
