Overview
Mayor and Council created the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) in May 2021 to provide civilian oversight of the Phoenix Police Department.
OAT’s responsibilities include:
- Receiving and referring complaints, concerns, comments, and commendations about Police Department personnel, policies, and procedures.
- Reviewing Police Department administrative investigations of certain incidents and misconduct allegations.
- Making recommendations to the Police Chief regarding policy, rules, and training issues.
- Engaging in community outreach within the Phoenix community through meetings, public presentations, and communication via social media.
- Providing annual public reports about OAT’s work and operations.
- Conducting community-police mediations.
- Supporting services to impacted community members.
- Administering a youth outreach program.
- Facilitating the Civilian Review Board.
