Overview

Established by the City Council in May 2021, the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) was created by the City of Phoenix to provide civilian oversight of administrative investigations of misconduct allegations against members of the Phoenix Police Department and to receive community feedback regarding complaints, commendations, concerns, and/or other comments about policing in Phoenix.

OAT’s initial responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring administrative investigations of critical incidents involving Phoenix Police Department personnel.
  • Conducting outreach within the Phoenix community through meetings, public presentations, and communication via social media.
  • Providing annual public reports about OAT’s work and operations.
  • Facilitating mediation of community complaints to OAT.
  • Referring community complaints and commendations to the Police Department for administrative investigation.
