About the Public Works Department

Public Works handles the proper collection and disposal of trash and recyclables for more than 350,000 households. The department also handles the maintenance of city-owned properties, such as City Hall and the Calvin C. Goode Building, as well as the purchase and maintenance​​​ of city-owned vehicles.

Public Works is committed to creating a sustainable Phoenix through positive resource management. In 2013, the department launched its waste diversion initiative, Reimagine Phoenix, with a citywide goal of diverting 40 percent of trash from the landfill by the year 2020.
