The Office of Environmental Programs advances environmental protection and sustainability through leadership, education, and policy/program development.

OEP provides environmental compliance assistance and oversight to staff citywide. OEP manages a number of programs. They are: Sustainable Purchasing, food systems, air quality, climate change, Brownfields Land Recycling, Clean Water Act Section 404. Pollution Prevention programs round out the programs. OEP staffs the Environmental Quality and Sustainability Commission.

OEP completed a Community Greenhouse Gas Emissions inventory. It implemented the STAR Communities Rating System. And, it helped the Office of Sustainability in achieving the LEED for Cities Platinum certification.
