Overview
The Solid Waste Equipment Operator (SWEO) apprenticeship program was developed to attract and train individuals with the desire to earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and become skilled SWEO. Apprentices provide trash and recycling collection services to more than 400,000 households within the city's 500+ square miles.
Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training, 2,000 on-the-job training (OJT) hours, and a minimum of 228 related training instruction hours. During this period of the program, apprentices will be non-classified and paid as a SWEO apprentice. After successful completion of all requirements, apprentices will be promoted into the SWEO classification and complete a 12-month probationary period.
