General Plan Amendment Process

​​​​​The General Plan is intended to be a living, creative document which can adapt to changing conditions, community goals and urban development opportunities, while assuring stability for our neighborhoods and protecting investments. Amendments to the General Plan may be initiated by a village planning committee, two members of the Planning Commission, a member of the City Council or by the owner of a property in cases of a land use map change. Privately filed amendments require a fee. Staff reviews the General Plan annually and will request updates to the Land Uses Map and Street Classification Map for consistency with development that may have occurred, but did not require a General Plan amendment.
