June 18, 2026: Phoenix Public Library is pleased to formally announce that the Library in Laveen has been renamed Prickly Pear Library. This name was selected following an extensive community engagement process that received more than 6,100 survey responses in which the public was invited to select their preference from five Sonoran Desert plant names. This renaming has been reviewed and advanced through the Library Advisory Board and City of Phoenix Heritage Commission, and it has now received final approval by the Phoenix City Council. Phoenix Public Library looks forward to continuing its service to the Laveen community under its new name and will share additional updates as they become available.
