This will be the fourth fire station addition to Ahwatukee. This will complete the firefighting force for the growing community and greatly reduce response times by crews.</p><p>Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, District 6 Phoenix City Councilman Kevin Robinson, and District 1 Phoenix City Councilwoman and Public Safety and Justice Chair Ann O'Brien were in attendance of the community meeting. Members of the Phoenix Fire Department's Executive Staff and the City of Phoenix's Parks and Recreation Department joined Pearlman Architects to discuss the future fire station.</p><p>The meeting focused on sharing conceptual designs from Pearlman Architects and the relocation of the Buresa Trailhead. Because the City of Phoenix already owns the land through the Parks and Recreation Department, the project will be fast tracked. But not to fear, the trailhead is not closing and not going far! The relocation of the Buresa Trailhead will be moved less than ¼ of a mile to the west.</p><p>Located on the northwest corner of 19th Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, this will allow for both the enjoyment of the beautiful Phoenix trail and the building of a new 13,250 square foot state of the art fire station.</p><p>Built with sustainability in mind, the future Phoenix Fire Station 74 has been designed per the City of Phoenix building design standards and current adopted building codes. It will incorporate environmental design principals similar to LEED to reduce energy consumption and water preservation.</p><p>The station will be single story and include three bays to house a fire engine and medical rescue. It will also include thirteen unisex dorms for firefighters to operate 24/7, 365 days a year.</p><p>When completed, the Ahwatukee community will have a total of four fire stations with four engine companies, one ladder company, three rescue companies. The city will hire and train 24 new Phoenix firefighters to provide staffing for three shifts and the necessary relief rate. Developed by SPIDR Tech, a leading public service platform for public safety, this software integrates seamlessly with existing computer systems to keep those who call for police services informed and provide real-time updates to victims of crimes. </p><p>When someone calls 911 or the Department’s non-emergency number from a cellphone, they will now receive a text message confirming their call. In cases of delayed response by the officers, an automated message will be sent to the caller letting them know about the delay. Delays may occur due to officers being diverted to a higher-priority calls or a high volume of calls in the city. </p><p>The innovative technology does not stop there. Callers will have the opportunity to give feedback through a user-friendly automated survey about their experience with the Department. The survey will be mobile-friendly and be received as a link on their phone, allowing the caller to complete the survey at their convenience. </p><p>“We want to hear from the public about how we’re doing. This valuable feedback will help us identify and understand areas where we can improve,” said Interim Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan.   </p><p>In addition to the text messaging service, victims will have access to real-time notifications and updates on the status of their case. By signing up through our new Victim Portal on the Department’s website, victims will have 24/7 access to information about their case along with automatic alerts and updates regarding arrests sent via text or email. Traditional methods of case updates through phone calls will still be available.   </p><p>“One of the guiding principles of the Department’s Crime Reduction Plan released earlier this year was to be community and victim-centered. This will allow us to communicate with and better inform the people we serve,” said Sullivan.  </p><p>SPIDR Tech services are set to launch on August 6, 2024. </p><p>This service marks a significant step toward enhanced community engagement and streamlined communication.  ​​<br></p></html></div>https://phoenix.gov/policeVideo

She started her library career at the Phoenix Public Library in 2006. She’s spent the last 14 years in various positions at the Maricopa County Library District, most recently se​rving as Deputy Director.</div><div><br></div><div>During her time at Maricopa County, Erin significantly expanded library access by implementing virtual library programs, digital library card registration, and curbside pickup of library materials. <br></div><div><br></div><div>She played a crucial role in establishing key community partnerships, including an award-winning program with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to expand library material access in county jails. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Erin also works with the American Library Association and the Arizona Library Association on public policy initiatives that promote intellectual freedom and access to electronic resources for an open information society. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Erin holds an undergraduate degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Arizona.<br></div><div><br></div><div>MacFarlane replaces Rita Hamilton, <a target="_blank" href="/newsroom/library/3046">who retired from the City in April </a>after serving as the City Librarian for 13 years.
