New this year, eligible businesses can apply for between $4,500 (up from $3,000 in past years) to $9,000 in program funding.  </p><p> </p> <p>Since launching in 2021, SBFAP has distributed more than $1M in grant funding to more than 200 small and micro businesses immediately adjacent to light rail construction in Phoenix. Last year alone, the program granted more than $370,000 to 70 businesses located along two separate light rail construction routes. </p> <p>“The grant was very helpful to our business. It helped pay our bills, including rent. Everyone should apply,” said David Herrera, owner, Comedor y Panadería La Tapatía.<br></p> <p>“The program has made a profound difference in my life and my business,” said Cerrone Burton, Owner, Gallery Hair Experience. “I am proud to say that, despite the challenges, the Gallery Hair Experience is not only still standing but thriving.”</p> <p>As the pilot program enters its fourth and final year, new applicants and those who received funding previously are encouraged to apply. The program aims to assist businesses with 15 or fewer employees located along the South Central Extension/Downtown Hub construction corridor whose annual revenue does not exceed $750,000. However, an airport is not an easy experience for everyone and can be overwhelming for an estimated seven million people in the United States experiencing dementia. To help alleviate that stress, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is thrilled to offer our award-winning Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop for the third time.<br><br>The Guest and Employee Experience Team at Phoenix Sky Harbor recognizes the importance of the Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop, as it continues to help passengers with dementia and their care providers plan and learn how to navigate a busy airport.<br><br>“We understand that navigating an airport is not the same experience for all, and when you add in the variable of dementia, it can be even more challenging.” said PHX’s Guest and Employee Experience Superintendent, Misty Cisneros-Contreras. “This workshop has proven to provide a valuable service to our community and an opportunity for our passengers dealing with dementia to be prepared and ready to fly next time they visit Phoenix Sky Harbor.” <br><br>The Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop is a unique opportunity that puts representatives from the airport and TSA all in one room to share information and tips while answering questions from family members of those with dementia and care providers.<br><br>The Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Those interested in learning more or wishing to attend the workshop can email <a href="mailto:skyharbor@phoenix.gov" target="_blank">skyharbor@phoenix.gov</a>. In addition, the space will become an inviting introduction to the O'Odham people, the descendants of the original inhabitants of the site, and our neighbors.</span> </p> <p> <span style="font-family:hind;">In addition, after 20 years, the “Dig It" gallery will be transformed into a changing exhibit space so that the Museum can present many new and exciting topics to our visitors. For example, when we reopen, or inaugural exhibit in the new Connections gallery is <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><em style="">Following Their Roots</em></span> – a comprehensive look at indigenous farming techniques across the diverse ecosystems of Arizona. This will include a timely discussion of sustainable farming practices and indigenous food sovereignty.</span> </p> <p> <span style="font-family:hind;">Depending on renovation work, we anticipate opening our <strong style="">outside trail only</strong> for visitors in early August.  Visitors will be able to cool down and have access to restrooms in our Community Room area. Check the tire pressure, breaks, fluids, lights and mirrors.</li> <li> <strong>Stay visible. </strong>Do not ride in the blind spots of other vehicles. Always have headlights on, even during the daytime hours.</li> <li> <strong>Do not ride under the influence. </strong> Do not ride after drinking alcohol or taking drugs, including some prescriptions.</li> <li> <strong>Avoid inclement weather. </strong>This includes stormy weather and extreme heat.  </li> <li> <strong>Stay alert. </strong>Pay attention to the vehicles around you.
